Oakland-based singer-songwriter Liana Warren's double-single Chance Encounter / Drugstore Crush.
Liana Warren's songs are intricately crafted stories that feel like flipping through the pages of a book. Her lyricism plays like deeply evocative poetry, and her melodies hold a sense of wistful optimism. Inspired by the folk music of the 60s and 70s, Warren’s songs hold a sense of timeless reverie. Warren is a known face in the Bay Area DIY scene. She has played keys in bands across the Bay (notably the Lizzy Dutton band) and has been a featured songwriter, soloist, and contributor of the Free Key Choir.
Beginning as a rather solitary and introspective solo project with the release of her debut album, For Now, Forever in 2025, Warren’s music has blossomed with the help of friends and collaborators Lizzy Dutton, Zachary Elsasser, and Geoff Saba. “Chance Encounter / Drugstore Crush” reaches new heights of both cuteness and groove, rooted in the experiences of modern love and uplifted by relationship.
A-side Chance Encounter drops us at the counter of a city liquor store, searching longingly for true love. It weaves like a trolley car up and down San Francisco hills, and it blows like dry leaves in the chilly air.
B-side Drugstore Crush catapults us into the heady high of finding love in the naively assured hope of a newfound crush. We waltz through the colorful plastics and chemical perfumes of the neighborhood drugstore and believe that all our ailments have been cured.
